‘The Memento Series’

represents an attempt to marry my love of paint with my vast, obsessive collection of found objects and photos.  It is a melding of two and three dimensions, a combination of my interest in inventing a narrative with my need to create order out of chaos (what I call my studio). 

The Mementos begin with and center around found old photos (usually) and evolve into a testament or imagined story that might surround the foundation image.  I incorporate lost jewelry, bottle caps, numbers from license plates, broken eyeglass frames, etc. to enhance the tale.  When brought together, the seemingly disparate elements evoke a hidden narrative to be divined.

This evocative, even touching nature of the work carries with it an intimacy that is often playful and hopefully inspiring.
